Snowtime Gallops

Our Poem

In the eerie light of winter's dawn
They clatter through the village on a crisp cold morn.
The moon now just a shadow, the grey sky tinged with blue,
And in silence a white mantle has replaced the Autumn dew.
A colt bucks seizing at the chance.
As the wind tugs his sheet, others start to prance.
Banter breaks the silence as muffled hooves churn snow,
Until they settle down to work, each lad crouching low.
With the all weather surface roughened, they're in hand up the hil
Though blanketed in snow it cheats the icy chill.
Now relaxed on loose rein they no longer play.
They turn for home, a stable warm to wait for Christmas Day.
